Restoration of Existing Public Art: a. two meetings ago it was brought to our attention that the “in this together’ mural has cracking in the vinyl throughout, Sara, Anni and Rosemary communicated with Signarama about any possible warranty and found out that there is none, however there was a manufacturer warranty for up to three years, which we are beyond now i. Signarama gave two options, one to replace with the materials we used last time, second one to use a more expensive vinyl that should last twice as long but is more expensive; need to get a clear answer from Signarama about how long we can expect all component to last in both options need to know what maintenance and repairs costs we need to budget for, and build ina schedule into our master plan and then place requests into the budget requests prior to that year i. need to ensure we build maintenance into all public art projects and include that in the master plan Forever lilies: discussion if we can restore those and when that decision should be made, tabled until we know more about the timeline for the status of 200 Main Going forward: we document restoration needs (restore “in this together” in 2020) and access restoration needs every August meeting i. Ask Signarama for quote with variables and understanding of the true “warranty” ii. Also periodically document the pieces -take pictures to see how quickly it continues to crack or not 1. Need to assign this to someone Need to build into the master plan the life cycle of public art (and need to preserve in archives, but maybe not continually restore) 4. Update on Butterfly Project a. b. We had to go to a different fabricator so now the butterfly % thick which eliminates our need to reinforce them Need a fact sheet for recruitment for artists and businesses/locations-Heidi will draft 475 Main Street T (630) 293-2200 Ruben Pineda West Chicago, Ilinois F (630) 293-3028 = Nancy M. Need to contact businesses and see if they want to “sponsor” their butterfly **do this first with 29 locations c. Determining who will “decorate” the butterfly: d. Will be done priming next week, then artists can pick them up at the gallery and have X amount of time and then we need deadline for them to be dropped back off and then Buddy will take back to shop and put the block on them to attach the stake and seal them i. Backside? Block off the block so people don’t paint there-no just provide diagram showing them where that will be attached e. PMV: buy smaller ones from Gallery in February/March f. Promo with butterfly silhouette (backdrop) pictures at Blooming g. Kris Zimmerman from the Environmental Commission would like to invite them to be involved in the project 5. Update on Public Art Master Plan a. Need to include balance of history and representing the history through the present and lens of presence , but ensuring it is not “representing” an idealized notion of the past that is not all encompassing b. Need to also emphasize the uniqueness of the art we can offer, but also speaking to things that help us become a destination for art that can speak to a variety of people c. Locations-key locations to welcome visitors (metra station) and greet residents, Metra parking lot; high traffic areas 6. Other Business a.
