MINUTES
ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION
May 7, 2019, 7:00 P.M.
Ls Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of a Quorum.
Chairman Beebe called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M. Roll call found Commissioners Dan Beebe, Bob
Blaus, Kris Zimmermann, John Symowicz, Joe Cavataio and Bethany Brown present.
Also in attendance was Assistant Director of Public Works, Tim Wilcox, and Water Treatment Plant
Superintendent, Joe Munder.
2s Approval of Minutes.
A. Environmental Commission Minutes of April 9, 2019. Commissioner Blaus made a
motion, seconded by Commissioner Symowicz to approve the meeting minutes of April
9, 2019.
There was one correction made to the minutes. On page two, under Rain Barrel Pick up and Paper
Shredding section, line three, PW was changed to read Public Works.
Voting Yea: Commissioners Beebe, Blaus, Brown, Cavataio, Symowicz, and Zimmermann. Voting
Nay: 0.
3. Public Participation/Presentations.
Joe Munder provided a tour of the Water Treatment Plant facility.
4, Items For Consent
A. Approve Recommendations for the Proposed 2020 Residential Solid Waste, Recycling,
and Yard Waste Collection Contract. Commissioner Blaus made a motion, seconded by
Commissioner Brown to approve Recommendations for the Proposed 2020 Residential
Solid Waste, Recycling, and Yard Waste Collection Contract.
Voting Yea: Commissioners Beebe, Blaus, Brown, Cavataio, Symowicz, and Zimmermann. Voting
Nay: 0.
5. Review and discuss Commission Priority List.
A. Review current priority list
Waste and Recycling Contract
The list of recommendations was reviewed, some corrections were made and the item was approved by
the group. Other discussion related to this topic involved the recycling of polystyrene, questions about

what can be recycled and where. The trend of industry to switch from using glass to plastic, and reasons
why glass and foam products are not being accepted for recycling by some companies.
The City’s current leaf collection program was also discussed. Some Commissioners thought the free
collection periods were too early in the fall and in the spring.
Blooming Fest
The items Groot provided, reusable shopping bags and chip clips, were received and members collected
these to bring to the event. DuPage County Storm Water Management program pamphlets were printed
and will be distributed at the event as well. Chairman Beebe asked for everyone attending to be there by
8:00 AM to get the booth and everything else set up on time. The event starts at 9:00 AM. He will email
everyone the booth assignment once he receives it.
Commissioner Zimmermann will bring the butterfly craft she created for the 2018 event. Chairman Beebe
said he has the Environmental Commission banner and also milkweed seeds to distribute.
Adopt a Highway
The clean up event scheduled for April 27, 2019 was rescheduled to May 4, 2019. Five bags of garbage
were collected. There were lots of plastic bags and foam insulation collected.
B. Discuss new additions to priority list
None.

7. Adjournment
At 9:06 P.M. Commissioner Blaus made a motion to adjourn. Commissioner Zimmermann seconded the
motion. Motion was unanimously approved by voice vote.
