1. Call to Order, Roll Call and Establishment of a Quorum
Call meeting to order at 7:04pm: Anni Holm, Uwe Gsedl, Buddy Plumlee, Lew Achenbach, Adriana Sarellana,
Sara Phalen, Gail Cannata, Cindy Davies, and City Liaison Rosemary Mackey in attendance.
2. Approve Meeting Minutes of January 2, 2020
Buddy motions to approve minutes with no corrections, Lew seconds, minutes approved.
3. Presentation by Mary Lester for Taco Night/Art Show
Mary presented some ideas, deadlines, and timeframes for the show, which is to take place on Saturday, August
8, 2020 from approximately 3:00pm to 8:00 or 9:00 pm. They are willing to extend the ours to begin earlier in
the morning if we chose to do so. Lew would like to participate with a Jazz Occurrence. The commission would
also like to invite artists to possibly set up their own booth to showcase their work. The Park District would
supply materials and compensate the musicians. Anni motions to vote that the Cultural Arts Commission would
like to partner with the West Chicago Park District on Taco fest and Art Show, Buddy seconds, all in favor,
motion passes. Lew and Sara will attend the park districts next meeting and act as liaison between the
commission and the park district.
4. Update on Design of Plaques for Existing City-owned Public Art
Uwe brought print samples for the mural and Signa Rotae. City logo to be changed to black and white. A 1/4” or
3/8” black border to be added to plaques. Juan’s poem to be in Spanish with a QR code for translation.
Discussion for Loveevenmore plaque to be added to next meeting’s agenda.
5. Results of Public Art Master Plan Survey Question #3, Development of Question #4
Deadline was January 31% and received close to 90 responses.
6. Update on 2020 Banner Artist Submissions and Vote on Deadline Extension
We have 11 submissions so far. Sara motions to extend deadline to February 21%, Uwe seconds, all in favor,
motion passes. Consider discussion for implementing a fee for late submissions for next year.
7. Other Business
|. | Rosemary met with “Baba” Abraham to discuss prices and received a quote for $600 to do a small clip
for social media.
Il. Consider ideas for a yearly project to welcome the Monarch butterflies during Blooming fest and say
goodbye during Mexican Independence Day.
