Call to Order, Roll Call and Establishment of a Quorum Call meeting to order at 7:01pm: Anni Holm, Buddy Plumlee, Adriana Sarellana, Heidi Kuharich, Sara Phalen, and City Liaison Rosemary Mackey in attendance. Mayor Pineda has determined that in-person meetings are not practical and prudent. 2. Approve Meeting Minutes of August 6, 2020 Meeting Adriana motions to approve minutes, Heidi seconds, minutes approved with no corrections. 3. Announce New Commission Member-Stephanie Ross Stephanie was notified this week of her appointment into the commission and she will be joining us at next month’s meeting. 4. Approval of Final Renderings for Existing Public Art Signage Add to next months agenda. Proofs have not been received to send to artist for approval. Anni will reach out to Uwe for status on proofs. 5. Update on Haiku Project Buddy has distributed replacements but had 3 or 4 left over. These are possible duplicates from the initial reprint request that Sara had made. Brainstorm ideas for how to use the Haiku’s that poet and host do not want. Possibly use them to create a walking trail leading up to one of the butterfly gardens. Another suggestion was to paint Haiku on large rocks and hide throughout town like an easter egg hunt, however, it seems Wego Rocks may be doing something similar. Subject to be discussed further at a future meeting. Next batch of Haiku signs for the fall season to go out in October. Sara will reformat and update the call for art and send to Rosemary to post. Deadline for submissions will be October 1*. The plan is to have submissions sent to Heidi for formatting by Oct. 5", sent to printer by Oct. 12, have prints completed by Oct. 19", and distributed Oct 28" and 29". Buddy will get orange color samples from Signarama. We are aiming for a pumpkin color with a possible white font. We will also request a print sample before approving all prints. Heidi will format a letter that Rosemary will email to the poets with details about receiving their signs. To get as many hosts as possible, a communication will also be sent out to all current hosts to ask if they would like to remain a host. If need be, we can use public locations to host signs. 6. Art Banner People’s Choice Winner The artist with the most votes was Emese Toth, banner #16 titled The Journey, with 74 votes. Runner up was Cassandra Reymundo, banner #12 titled Aspen at the edge of a field, with 47 votes. Emese will be contacted about a spring display of art at City hall as part the prize. Banners will be coming down in a few weeks and will be delivered to either the gallery or museum and Sara will reach out to artist about options for purchasing them. The launching of next years theme “Take Flight” to be discussed at next meeting. Rosemary will check to see if she has information for call for art. Sara will contact juror Jackie for permission to use one of her photographs for promo. 475 Main Street T (630) 293-2200 | Ruben Pineda West Chicago, Mlinois F (630) 293-3028 mE 60185 www.westchicago.org Nancy M.
