Call to Order, Roll Call and Establishment of a Quorum Call meeting to order at 7:07pm: Roll Call found Anni Holm, Buddy Plumlee, Adriana Sarellana, Heidi Kuharich, Sara Phalen, Stephanie Ross, and City Liaison Rosemary Mackey in attendance. A quorum was established. Uwe Gsedl joined at 7:27pm. We are also joined by Kerry Perry, Billie Childress, and Valeria Perez. Mayor Pineda has determined that in person meetings are not practical and prudent. 2. Approve Meeting Minutes of September 17, 2020 Special Meeting Sara motions to approve, Buddy seconds, minutes approved with no corrections. 3. Welcome New Commission Member- Stephanie Ross New Member Stephanie Ross joins us for the first time. Stephanie shared her background in teaching and shared her interest in contributing to the community in a different way, through involvement in the commission. 4. Proposal from West Chicago Garden Club to Partner on Garden Art Project Billie and Kerry from the West Chicago Garden Club proposed a garden art project similar to last year’s Butterfly Effect project. The proposal suggests a bee shape instead of a butterfly for the wood templates. They also suggested having clusters of bees at a singular location such as a park. They have spoken with the West Chicago Park District and the district has agreed to host. The commission will table the discussion until the next meeting. (Also see if perhaps Billie would like to join the commission.) 5. Approval of Final Renderings for Existing Public Art Signage Loveevenmore-Flat vs Slanted sign. We will keep flat for now but maybe consider slanted wedge design for future projects. Verify QR code is working. Add @heyitsmatthew. Anni will send rendering of sign to artist for approval. Signa Rotae-Needs to be downsized a bit to fit in the slot allotted. Verify QR code. Buddy will install. In this-Together-Verify QR code and then ready to go to print. New sign to be installed lower than the current sign (aligned with the bottom of the mural). Juan’s Mural-Sara sent Juan renderings for approval, still waiting to hear from Juan. Verify QR code. In the future look into updating the city’s art site. 6. Approval of Autumn Haiku Submissions All poets whose Haiku does not meet the required syllables criteria have been contacted for revisions. Deadline for submissions is today. If any new Spanish Haikus are submitted Adriana will review. There was a question on whether all submissions should be printed or only those that meet the “fall theme”. Buddy motions to proceed with printing all submissions Stephanie seconds. All in favor: Anni, Heidi, Adriana, Uwe. All opposed: none. Motion Carried. We have received some incredibly positive feedback on the Haiku’s, as well as a suggestion from Becky Hall to create a book of all the signs. 7. Update on Poet and/or Host Response to Keep Yard Sign We have a preliminary list of hosts. Poets have been asked if they want to keep their signs. Status of 2021 Art Banner Call for Art Rosemary is waiting on the photo that will be used for promo. Discussion of 2021 Maintenance of Existing Public Art In This-Together-Damage is not visible from the street. Artist Anni thinks it gives the piece character and should keep as is for another year. Loveevenmore-Base of sculpture has some damage (rust and scratches possibly from a lawnmower). May need to be painted or have a powder coating applied. Rosemary will speak with Director of Public Works Rob Flatter and report back to us. Juan’s mural-Panel bowing possibly due to missing screws. John from Signarama will take a look, it may need to stay like that for drainage purposes. Parking Lot Item: Discussion of Next Public Art Proposals To be discussed at next meeting Other Business -Buddy’s son is conducting a survey for a school project and asked if we would be willing to complete a questionnaire. Buddy will send survey to Rosemary and she will forward it to commission members. -Anni communicated to us there is an opportunity to work with the Chicago Arts Partnership in Education as they will be collaborating with District 33. Public Participation Valeria Perez clarified that Mayor Pineda appoints commission members every year. Therefore, we would hold Anni’s seat until January and Buddy, as Vice Chair, will serve as interim Chair in Anni’s absence until either Anni returns or she resigned her seat.
