MINUTES Call to Order at 7:06pm by Buddy Plumlee; Roll Call: Uwe Gsedl, Heidi Kuharich, Sara Phalen, Buddy Plumlee, Stephanie Ross, Deborah Walsh, and City Liaison Rosemary Mackey in attendance. Quorum established. Approve Minutes of January 7, 2021: Sara Phalen made motion to approve, Stephanie Ross seconded the motion; minutes approved unanimously with no corrections. Summer/Autumn Haiku Sign Distribution: Heidi Kuharich reported all available signs have been retrieved from host locations (several lost to weather). Poet Pick-Up scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 10am-2pm, Gallery 200. Update on 2021 Art Banner Submissions: 24 submitting artists to date a. Discussion on extending deadline to accommodate more submissions; motion carries unanimously to extend to 2.22.21 b. Discussion on using past or sample banners to advertise or discuss images to be used in future campaigns; in general, Commission members want to be more intentional in planning campaigns, especially with diversity in mind Take Flight Connection with DuPage Airport: Executive Director is willing to connect and open to proposals from Commission on how to participate; ideas include holding the artist reception at the airport, displaying second set of banners along drive into airport, recreating banners as posters for inside main facility, etc; Rosemary Mackey will reach out to airport marketing representative to learn more about potential opportunities Installation of Balsa Gliders to Promote Take Flight: a. Intent to hang existing West Chicago promotional gliders from ceiling in window of Gallery 200; Rosemary Mackey confirmed availability of 500 gliders for this purpose and will send them to Gallery 200; Heidi Kuharich and Sara Phalen to work together to manage project b. Discussion on inviting West Chicago school kids to decorate the gliders and return to Museum unassembled, scheduling onsite decorating events (pandemic restrictions in mind), creating timelapse “how-to” videos/photos to promote, including senior groups for intergenerational participation; return goal: April 20 to accommodate installation prior to Blooming Fest and Banner kick-off; Sara Phalen motions, Heidi Kuharich seconds, motion carries unanimously 2021 Public Art Milkweed Project: discussion on status of Blooming Fest and desire to distribute milkweed seeds (with Monarchs in mind) a. Pandemic considerations still holding uncertainty over Blooming Fest: no date yet, WeGo Dreams taking over plant sale in lieu of Garden Club decline b.
