MINUTES 1. Call to Order at 7:09pm by Buddy Plumlee; Roll Call: Uwe Gsedl, Judith Horsley, Heidi Kuharich, Sara Phalen, Buddy Plumlee, Stephanie Ross, Deborah Walsh, and City Liaison Rosemary Mackey in attendance. Quorum established. 2. Approve Minutes of February 4, 2021: Stephanie Ross made motion to approve, Sara Phalen seconded the motion; minutes approved unanimously with no corrections. 3. Welcome and Brainstorm Ideas for Milkweed Project with Newest Commission Member Judith Horsley: a. .Introduce new Commission Member Judith Horsley b. Discussion of how to distribute milkweed seeds in light of pandemic restrictions; seeds are on hand but unclear how to best distribute at this time; Illinois is promoting “Billion Stem Project” to support all pollinators c. Other ideas include: community seed box for distribution as an art project, promoting garden certification through Monarch Watch; artist call for awareness campaign that extends to permanent signage in City butterfly gardens; sculpture d. Final: Proposal for Art, inviting local printmaker Mr. Estrada, to gain artwork and licensing for use -in postcards, posters, seed packets, etc; Motion passes unanimously; Commission calling Special Meeting for 3.16.21 to review proposal (Sara Phalen and Buddy Plumlee) for Public Affairs Committee 4. Update on 2021 Art Banner Submissions and Next Steps: a. Uwe Gsed] requests two weeks to prep artwork for printer by mid-April in order to adhere to May hanging schedule b. Using same vendor (Signarama) as 2020 5. Take Flight Connection with DuPage Airport: Rosemary Mackey reported reaching out to team at airport to follow up on promotion; received no response 6. Update on Outreach for Balsa Gliders to Promote Take Flight: a. 500 gliders received by Gallery 200; 100 reserved for History At Home packs; remainder will be made available at Gallery 200; Senior centers and library suggested as additional sites b. All can be returned (flat) to City Museum, tagged with artist name for later reclaiming (August/September?) 7. Other Business: Heidi Kuharich reported ongoing interest in haiku and inquiry from Janet Ayala (LMS) in including students in next round in concert with poetry unit coming up in March; compromise with an offer to host online gallery of haiku for any LMS student through end of school year with existing haiku galleries; motion carries unanimously; Heidi will respond to Janet with a letter 8.
