Guest Jacob Hernandez remarked on his interest in joining the Commission 4. Items for Discussion and Possible AcƟon a. Current Project Updates i. Dream World Portals 1. Deborah Walsh is leading Workshop at the Library: August 6, 2-3pm; August 24, 7-8pm; September 9, 2-3pm 2. Dan Peck reported that Omar Espinosa, Republic Bank, has offered to host an addiƟonal workshop with his clients; Heidi Kuharich will follow-up on the contact and work with Deborah Walsh to execute 3. Discussion on promoƟng the workshops and Portal distribuƟon overall as well as follow-up with those already registered ii. West Chicago Alebrije 1. Heidi Kuharich and Buddy Plumlee are holding regular hours on Wednesdays, 5-7pm, and Saturdays, 12-2pm; will conƟnue unƟl the project is completed (by September 30) 2. Discussion on volunteers joining the effort; hope that as the Alebrije conƟnues to take form and more photos are published, more volunteers will come---and in general more aƩenƟon from the community even if they don’t want to take part 3. West Chicago Public Library District has been promoƟng on social media and gaining tracƟon for project 4. Discussion on promoƟng via City channels, including press release (mostly Daily Herald) b. Railroad Days Debrief i. Discussion on whether CAC parƟcipaƟon was worth it: yes ii. Discussion on future “acƟvity” being needed since this year’s involvement was voƟng on the Alebrije aƩributes iii. QuesƟons about whether the “Kids Zone” will conƟnue as this was first year but champion has leŌ the Chamber c. Taco & Art Fest Debrief i. Discussion on whether CAC parƟcipaƟon was worth it: yes ii. Discussion on factors contribuƟng to success: placement at event, acƟvity on offer (CAC was drawing much aƩenƟon) d. Outreach i. Discussion on any outreach acƟvity being worthwhile as it raises CAC’s profile in the Community ii. Discussion on whether purchasing a tent would be worthwhile if CAC intends to conƟnue iii. Judith Horsley suggested exhibiting at NaƟonal Night Out (if appropriate) as it seems to be well aƩended iv. Heidi Kuharich suggested formalizing the review process on each event with a short form and offered to begin with those of the last year 5. Other Business a. Judith Horsley ResignaƟon: relocating to California aŌer 45 years in West Chicago; will not need to fully vacate seat unƟl the move happens later this year b. Roles and ResponsibiliƟes: Heidi Kuharich suggested a more formal review of the Municipal Code and a work group to begin work on seƫng more specificity for the Commission; Buddy Plumlee made the moƟon to proceed with work group, Deborah Walsh seconded the moƟon, unanimous; Heidi Kuharich, Deborah Walsh, Judith Horsley, and Paulina Garcia volunteered for the work group c. Uwe Gsedl made note of key dates for upcoming Sister Cities celebraƟon and Mayoral visit (9.9-9.20.22): Dessert Party @ Gsedl Home on 9.11.22 at 6pm; Meet the Mayors @ Hawthorne’s BBQ on 9.15.22 at 6pm; City Council RecogniƟon @ City Hall on 9.19.22 at 6pm; all CAC members are invited to all events listed 6.
