MINUTES
PUBLIC AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Monday, September 18, 2023 6:15 P.M.
Call to Order, Roll Call, and Establishment of a Quorum.
Chairman Chassee called the meeting to order at 6:15pm. Roll Call found Alderman
Brown, Hallett, Birch Ferguson, Smith and Short.
Approval of Minutes.
A. Public Affairs Committee Minutes of August 21, 2023. Alderman Brown
made a motion, seconded by Alderman Hallett to approve the minutes of the Public
Affairs Committee meeting. Voting Aye: Chairman Chassee, Alderman Brown,
Hallett, Birch Ferguson, Smith and Short. Voting Nay: 0. Abstain: 0. Motion carried.
Public Participation / Presentations.
Items for Consent.
A. Ordinance No. 23-O-0034 — Animal Control and Care - Alderman Smith made a
motion, seconded by Alderman Birch Ferguson to direct this item to City Council for
approval. Voting Aye: Chairman Chassee, Alderman Hallett, Birch Ferguson, Smith
and Short. Voting Nay: Alderman Brown. Motion carried.
B. Homecoming — Fireworks Display Wheaton Academy - Alderman Birch
Ferguson made a motion, seconded by Alderman Brown to direct this item to City
Council for approval. Voting Aye: Chairman Chassee, Alderman Brown, Hallett, Birch
Ferguson, Smith and Short. Voting Nay: 0. Motion carried.
C. Ordinance No. 23-O-0032 — Stop Intersections - Alderman Birch Ferguson
made a motion, seconded by Alderman Brown to direct this item to City Council for
approval. Voting Aye: Chairman Chassee, Alderman Brown, Hallett, Birch Ferguson,
Smith and Short. Voting Nay: 0. Motion carried.

7. New Business.
Alderman Birch Ferguson addressed her concern regarding the pifiata and the candy
distribution and the children getting too close to the floats at the Mexican Independence
Day Event. These issues will be added to the report for the MID Final Report.
8. Reports from Staff.
10. Adjournment. Alderman Hallett made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Alderman
Short. The motion approved by voice vote, and the meeting adjourned at approximately
6:50pm.
