Although the system will be installed primarily inside the home, an AMG Eagle Extreme duct fan with a 3-inch PVC pipe for venting will be installed on the exterior of the home at the northwest corner, away from public view. The vent pipe will run up the side of the house and extend 12 inches past the roof line. Please see photos and spec sheet for more details. The building is an 1907 Queen Anne and according to the East Washington street Historic District survey the building is significant to the District and is a candidate for local landmark status. The Commission was established in 1990 to provide a mechanism to identify and preserve the special distinctive historic characteristics of West Chicago and foster and encourage preservation, restoration, and historically sensitive rehabilitation of properties and streetscapes. During 2024, the Commission reviewed 22 applications for a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA). Nineteen COA applications were for building improvements for structures located in the Turner Junction Historic District (TJHD), and 7 of those COA applications were for signage. A notable project in the TJHD that started in 2023 and completed in 2024 was the renovation of 200 Main Street, a historically contributing building the TJHD owned by the City. Three COA applications were received for residential properties located in the East Washington Street Historic District. No COA applications were received for any of the existing landmarked properties. All COA applications reviewed in 2024 received approval. The Commission held 8 regularly scheduled meetings in 2024. Regularly scheduled meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of every month. The chair of the Commission vacated his seat on the Commission in September. This left a vacancy on the Commission in addition to one existing vacancy. The Vice Chair of the Commission was then appointed as chair by the Mayor. Both vacant seats on the Commission were filled in December to bring the total number of commissioners back to seven. There were no applications received or reviewed this year for sites to be added to the National Register of Historic Places. The Commission continues to monitor the building at 132 Main Street as a site on the National Register of Historic Places. The building is the former Turner Town Hall from 1884 and is owned by the City and houses the West Chicago City Museum. The City provided financial assistance via the City’s Downtown Façade Improvement Program to one property located in the TJHD. The grant was for 216 Main Street for The Bunker Bar and Grill for an awning with signage. This project received COA approval from the Commission. The grant, although typically funded by the City’s Downtown Tax Increment Financing (TIF) district, was funded by the General Fund due to the TIF fund not having enough increment in 2024. Tuesday, February 25, 2025 Meetings occur at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2025 Meetings will take place in the Council Tuesday, April 22, 2025 Chambers of West Chicago City Hall – 475 Street, unless otherwise indicated. Tuesday, May 27, 2025 Packets are sent electronically to Tuesday, June 24, 2025 commissioners and are posted on the City website the Thursday prior to a meeting. Tuesday, July 22, 2025 Notices for cancelled meetings will be sent Tuesday, August 26, 2025 as soon as practical. Tuesday, September 23, 2025 The Historical Preservation Commission requires at least 4 commissioners to be Tuesday, October 28, 2025 present to constitute a quorum. Tuesday, November 25, 2025 Members are expected to attend all regularly scheduled meetings.
