             CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES
                             Thursday, May 1, 2025
                   West Chicago City Hall – 475 Main Street
                                      7:00 p.m.


1.  Call to Order, Roll Call, Establishment of a Quorum
   Chairman Kuharich called the meeting to order at 7:14 p.m. Roll call indicated that Chairman
    Kuharich and Commissioners Garcia, Gsedl, Hernandez, Plumlee, Renwick, and Walsh were present.
   Commissioner Treudt was absent. Also in attendance was Marketing and Communications Manager
    Daniel Peck.

2.  Public Participation
   No public comments.

3.  Approval of Minutes
     a.  Cultural Arts Commission Meeting: April 3, 2025: Commissioner Walsh made a motion,
       seconded by Commissioner Hernandez, to approve the April 3, 2025 meeting minutes. The
       motion carried.

4.  Items for Discussion and Possible Action
     a.  2025 Art Banner Exhibit: Approval of $1,667.25 for Printing: Commissioner Walsh made a
       motion, seconded by Commissioner Renwick, to approve the printing cost of $1,667.25 for the
       2025 Art Banner Exhibit. The motion carried.
    b.  2026 Art Banner Exhibit Theme Selection: Commissioner Gsedl made a motion, seconded by
       Commissioner Hernandez, to approve “Red, White, Blue” as the theme for the 2026 Art Banner
        Exhibit. The motion carried.

5.  Other Business
     a.  Ability for Sub-Committees to Independently Take Action: The Commission reviewed and
        discussed the Sub-Committee Guidelines in an open forum.
    b.  Sub-Committee Updates
         1.  2025 Arteculture: Commissioner Plumlee reviewed details for the upcoming reception on
        May 16, 2025, including usage of the approved budget of $200 to be used toward
            refreshments.
         2.  2025 Art Banner Exhibit: Commissioner Gsedl presented the map for the 2025 Exhibit. The
          group discussed and approved the use of surplus funds from the current 2025 Art Banner
            Exhibit budget—available due to printing fewer art banners than the anticipated full slate of
         26—to cover promotional materials, including the exhibit map. Additionally, the group
           agreed to allocate funds toward the production of two "gateway banners," to be installed at
             either end of the display area. These gateway banners, intended for repeated use in future
            years, represent a one-time or infrequent expense and were made feasible by the current
             year's budget surplus.
         3.  2025 Summer Series - Hokusai: Chairman Kuharich provided an update on the Summer
            Series initiative. Commissioner Renwick shared additional details about activities and events
           planned at Gallery 200 as part of the initiative. In conjunction with the discussion about an
           opening reception for the Summer Series, the group also discussed potential dates for the Art
             Trail (downtown murals) opening. Manager Peck noted he would follow up on the Mayor’s

availability after the upcoming Council meeting and swearing-in. The group also discussed
           use of the series logo, and Chairman Kuharich requested a copy of Gio Arellano’s bio and
            exhibit notes.
         4.  2025 Loteria: Commissioner Garcia and Chairman Kuharich reported that they are in the
           process of finalizing this year’s two artists.

6.  Adjournment
   At 7:56 p.m., Chairman Kuharich adjourned the meeting.
