ITEM SUMMARY:
Wiant House Properties, owner of 151 W Washington Street in the Turner Junction Historic District, is
requesting approval of a Certificate of Appropriateness to remove and replace the existing exterior
stairs on the west side of the building. These stairs, which lead from the ground level to the unit on the
second floor, have aged past their usefulness. No other modifications to the exterior of the building is
proposed. Please see attached plans and photos for more information.

The Wiant House is considered a candidate for local landmark status and is contributing to the Turner-
Junction Historic District. Constructed in 1869, it consists of the Second Empire architectural style and
was originally the home of Joel Wiant, an early settler of the City. The Wiant House remains an im-
portant historical asset of the Historic District and the City overall.

ACTION PROPOSED:

Consideration of removal and replacement of the existing exterior stairs at 151 W Washington Street.

e Install new stringers for steps.
e Install new planks upper and lower platforms.
e Install new railing (Evermark 31 in x 1% in. Unfinished Hemlock Square Top Wood
Baluster for Stairs Remodel) per customer (client)
e All materials included.
e All debris hauled away.
