This endeavor would be in collaboration with Street Soccer USA (SSUSA) and Missionary Athletes International (MAI) to commemorate the 2026 World Cup. The Council directed staff to present the concept of using a portion of the property for futsal fields to the Downtown Revitalization Commission (DRC). Staff presented the concept to the DRC at their May 27th meeting and provided a recommended loca- tion within the West Washington Street site near the southwest corner of the property, behind existing industrial buildings, as shown on the attached aerial. This area is partially in a floodplain and thus less attractive for future redevelopment of the entire site. The location would place the fields on the periph- ery of the site allowing the balance of the property to remain undisturbed for future redevelopment. The location would also allow public street access at the end of N Aurora Street, located off of Wash- ington Street. Parking would be provided by the existing parking lot behind the City-owned 157 W Washington Street building.
