Approximately 200 tons of Carbon Dioxide are used annually. Liquid Carbon Dioxide is used in the treatment process to stabilize the water chemistry after the softening process is complete. This process, known as recarbonation, lowers the pH of the softened water to an acceptable level. On August 18, 2025, the City Council approved Resolution No. 25-R-0056, awarding a contract to MacCarb, Inc. for the procurement of liquid Carbon Dioxide for Fiscal Year 2026 in an amount of $48,600.00. Finished water production has increased approximately 3.5% year-to-date, while Carbon Dioxide dosage has increased by approximately 5%. As a result of the increased water production and chemical usage, additional Carbon Dioxide will be required to maintain adequate inventory through the remainder of the Fiscal Year 2026. Staff recommends approving Change Order No. 1 to MacCarb's original contract for the procurement of Carbon Dioxide for Fiscal Year 2026 in the amount not to exceed $10,000.00, bringing the total contract value to $58,600.00. Adequate funds are available in the Water Fund, Water Treatment Plant Operations - Chemicals (06-34- 48-4626) to cover this expenditure in FY2026.
