Upcoming Fiber Optic Installation Work in the Washington Street and Sophia Street Areas
Property owners in the Washington Street and Sophia Street areas should anticipate construction activity within various public rights-of-way and utility easements. The work involves the installation of both aerial and underground fiber optic cable as part of a project managed by AT&T and its contractor, Pirtano Construction. Construction is expected to begin the week of August 11, 2025, and be completed by September 2025.
AT&T will distribute door hanger notices to affected properties with additional details about the project, including contact information. Property owners with questions or concerns about the project or any site-specific issues during installation are encouraged to contact AT&T directly at 1-800-843-6581.
Understanding Public Rights-of-Way
A public right-of-way refers to any municipal street, alley, or utility easement that the City has the legal authority to use or permit for utility-related purposes. This includes areas commonly used for infrastructure such as gas, electric, and telecommunications lines. Utility companies and their contractors are authorized to access these areas through a license or franchise agreement with the City, including for the installation of fiber optic cable.
