Leaf Collection Program

The leaf collection program is part of the existing refuse contract with Groot Industries, Inc. This program helps residents keep their yards clean and neighborhoods looking their best.

Free Leaf Pick-Up (Oct. 20 – Dec. 5, 2025) Due to weather conditions, the free leaf pick-up program has been extended through Friday, December 5, 2025.

From Monday, October 20, 2025, through Friday, December 5, 2025 (previously Saturday, November 29), residents can set out leaves for free pick-up. Place leaves in large brown paper yard waste bags and set them out on your regular garbage day. No refuse sticker is needed during this free program period. Extended Collection with Stickers (Dec. 1 – Dec. 12, 2025)
After the free program ends, Groot will continue to collect leaves in yard waste bags for two more weeks, from Monday, December 1 through Friday, December 12, 2025. During this time, each bag must have a refuse sticker attached in order to be picked up. Program Reminders
  • Leaves only-please don’t mix in grass, branches, or other yard waste.
  • Use large brown paper yard waste bags, not plastic bags.
  • Set bags at the curb by 6:00 a.m. on your regular garbage day.
This program makes it easy to take care of fall leaves while keeping our streets safe and clean. We encourage all residents to take part and help keep West Chicago beautiful.
