Keep Fire Hydrants Clear This Winter
With winter weather conditions in full force, the West Chicago Fire Protection District is asking residents to help by clearing snow three feet in all directions around the nearest fire hydrant. This simple action helps ensure that emergency responders have quick and easy access to hydrants when needed.
Why Clearing Hydrants Matters
When hydrants are buried or blocked by snow, firefighters lose valuable time locating and digging them out during an emergency. Keeping hydrants visible and accessible helps protect your home, your neighbors, and the entire community. How You Can Help
After each snowfall, please:- Remove snow and ice from around the hydrant
- Clear at least a 3-foot perimeter in all directions
- Make a visible, shoveled path from the street to the hydrant
