The City has been notified that ComEd will be performing vegetation management activities in West Chicago from February through April. These activities are essential to maintain the reliability of electrical service and protect public safety.
ComEd will conduct two types of vegetation management work in the area:
Transmission corridor
This corridor include large steel poles or towers that transport high-voltage electricity. ComEd owns or has express property rights to perform vegetation management within this area to maintain required safety clearances. (See the West Chicago transmission corridor map)
Distribution circuits
These are smaller power lines that run through neighborhoods and along streets. Vegetation management along these lines may occur near or on private property to help prevent outages and safety hazards. ComEd has notified affected customers and property owners.
Plan Before You Plant: Landscaping Safely Near Power Lines
Trees provide shade, beauty, and environmental benefits, but planting too close to power lines can lead to outages, safety risks, and future trimming or removal. ComEd encourages residents to practice “smart planting” by selecting shrubs and low-growing trees and planting larger species away from overhead lines.

ComEd Assistance Programs
