City of West Chicago Launches Digital Modernization Initiative and Invites Public Input
The City of West Chicago has begun a comprehensive digital modernization initiative aimed at improving how residents, businesses, and visitors access City services and information online.
As part of this effort, the City is reviewing the structure and content of its municipal website to ensure that important information about services, permits, programs, and meetings is clear, accurate, and easy to find. The project will also include a transition to a .gov domain, a change that strengthens cybersecurity protections and reinforces public trust by clearly identifying the City’s official government website.
Domains ending in .gov are restricted to verified government organizations and provide additional security protections that help residents and businesses know they are interacting with an official government website.
Staff from across City departments who regularly interact with residents and businesses are helping review the current website and identify opportunities to improve how information and services are presented online. Their experience assisting the public helps highlight where people most often struggle to find information or complete a process online.
Public Feedback Requested
In addition to staff feedback, the City is inviting residents, business owners, and community members to share their experiences accessing City services online.
A short public survey is now available to gather feedback on how people currently use the City’s website and what improvements would make it easier to find information and complete common tasks.
The survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and will remain open through April 6, 2026.

Looking Ahead
After completing a full review of the City’s current site, the next step is to review and select a technology partner to support development of the updated website. Work on the new platform will include content updates, improved navigation, accessibility enhancements, and the transition to the City’s new .gov domain.
The City’s current website will remain fully operational throughout this process while improvements are planned and implemented. Existing links and bookmarks will continue to work and will automatically redirect to the new website once the transition to the .gov domain is complete.
The updated municipal website is anticipated to launch in early 2027, allowing time for thoughtful planning, community input, and careful implementation to ensure a reliable and user-friendly experience for residents and businesses.
