Honoring Service and Sacrifice This Memorial Day
The City of West Chicago invites the community to attend the annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25 at 10 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery, located at 599 E. York Avenue.
Hosted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #6791, the ceremony honors the men and women who gave their lives in service to the United States.
In recognition of Memorial Day, American Legion Post #300 will place American flags on veterans’ graves at Glen Oak Cemetery for the holiday weekend as a tribute to those who served and sacrificed for the nation.
The City also maintains an online Cemetery Map (available on the City website) that allows the public to search burial records by name. At Oakwood Cemetery, records are available to the lot level due to the cemetery being nearly fully occupied and limitations in historic data. At Glen Oak Cemetery, information is available to the individual grave level, including identification of veterans’ graves.
Community members are encouraged to attend this meaningful observance and join in remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the country.
