Community Park Project

Review the long-term plan to transform the former Kerr-McGee site into a public park.

Plans and phases

From industrial site to public park

The City plans to transform the approximately 44-acre former Kerr-McGee industrial site, west of Pioneer Park and east of Weyrauch Street, into public green space with recreation, natural restoration, and community gathering areas.

Phase 0 focuses on the northern section. A $2 million federal grant supports this first phase. Later phases depend on funding and environmental clearance.

Cleanup and oversight continue. Weston Solutions currently controls the land, and the Illinois EPA oversees environmental work. Use the official page to confirm access, construction, and timing.
